The words of the Spiritual sings to our hearts today, "Woke up this morning with my mind...stay on Jesus." Jesus who speaks peace to the storms of life; calms the chaos, puts a muzzle on the messiness.
Yet, we still get drenched from downpours, seasick while standing on land, feel restless/anxious/afraid, and wonder why life can feel a junk drawer ~ a collection of random things where there is little rhyme or reason.
We long to be grounded, centered ~ not racing and running around like the disciples from last Sunday trying to throw the waves of water crashing into the boat back into the sea.
How do we do that?
First, it is not all up to us. We wake up and center in the Source of the One who offers peace. Notice I didn't say makes everything magically better. Notice I didn't say Jesus is the Genie that grants all our wishes or affirms our agenda. We center on Jesus.
Second, we breathe. Often on Thursdays I ask you to breathe in peace and exhale chaos. This prayer practice is about noticing the One who first breathed life into us.
Third, we release. So much of our stress is about expectations ~ of ourselves, others, and how things are supposed to be. Release means that life rarely works out according to our plans.
This morning center yourself in Christ's presence here and now. Breathe deeply ~ slowly inhaling and exhaling. Release what you believe must happen today or today is going to be categorized as "bad". Then, receive the One who greets you with a blessing and love this morning. Amen.
