Praying the Psalms

Read Psalms 117-119

A prayer based on the above three Psalms: Praise to You, O God.  Open my ears to hear You and my life to perceive all the ways Your presence permeates each moment.  Loosen my voice to invite others to join in this sacred song.  Guide me each moment this day that I might find truth not in the latest Tweet, but in Your wisdom that has been sung for generations.  God of light and love, let my prayer be lived through me on this 4th of July.  I pray for our country that it can get so trapped by us versus them, where fear is our national currency and the language we throw at each other.  I pray for the places and people where we cling to violence ~ physically, verbally, and emotionally.  We do not see vulnerability as Your holy way, even though You are born in a barn and crucified by the powers that be.  We turn our connection with You into a transaction, because consumerism is how we define and distinguish ourselves.  Help us, O God.  Call us back from the systems of oppression, many of which operate without our permission or awareness.  You are our God, the One in whom our souls delight.  Let Your grace be a light, like a firework lighting up the night sky of our soul this day and every day this month.  To You, O God, be the glory and guidance of our life.  Amen.
