Gardening, growing, generative
and gracious God, thank you for metaphors that can help us make sense of what
is within us and around us. Thank you,
that although we may not have a literal garden to tend, we have the soil in our
souls of our life that You are helping us pay attention to. For that which is thriving in the garden of
life, we give thanks! For the fruits of
the spirit that are sweet to the tip of our tongue ~ love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control
(Galatians 5:22-23) ~ help us pay attention to these words and let these words
loose in our words/actions this week.
For that which is unkempt and unruly and uncontrollable in our life, we
seek Your wisdom. Should we dig deeper
into the weedy areas, or should we resist trying to make everything
perfect? God, we don’t know what we
don’t know, so help us. Thank you, that
You continue to sink Your sacred touch into our hearts, minds, and whole
lives. Help us be open to new seeds as
well as the harvest we are enjoying right now.
When we are weary or worn out, remind us to rest, reassuring us that You
too rested on the seventh day. May the
wisdom of the garden continue to sing to our souls in these February days. Amen.
