Do you have a made-me-down from your parents or grandparents in your closet? Maybe you have your grandfather’s bowtie or your grandmother’s wedding ring. These tangible tokens that still bear the DNA of your ancestors. This coming Sunday we will honor our Saints in worship. We will name people who are now in God’s eternal embrace. We will sing about the great cloud of witness that always hovers around us. We will name and honor that we are who we are because of those who sewed threads of life into us, creating this garment of life we wear. Who were the people who have left an impression upon you? Name and celebrate the saints of your life. You may even want to put the person’s name in the chat. We honor that there is no “self-made” human being ~ that is both biologically impossible and socially/religiously impractical. We are who we are because of the connections that teether us to each other.
Please pray with
me,
God, for ALL the
saints who have shined their light in my life, thank you.
For parents,
grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, and siblings, thank you.
For teachers and
mentors, those who took us under their wings and helped us learn to fly, thank
you.
For friends and
co-workers, fellow church members, and people who are there for us on the
rollercoaster of life, thank you.
For this mystery
of how our life is a patchwork quilt connecting us to the fabric of others with
Your threads of love, thank you.
Let us honor those
who continue to inspire and infuse our life every day. For all the saints, O God, we give
thanks. Alleluia and Amen.
