When the list of
where you long, deeply desire, “Hosanna” is complete ~ only it is never really
complete ~ but that is okay ~ at some point you pause, put down the pen, and
breathe.
When the run to
the store has been done and groceries are put away.
When the eggs are
dyed and the house is decorated and the Easter cards sent.
Then, what?
The waiting of
Holy Tuesday enters in…not with something “to do”, but a way “to be”.
A way of being in
the ordinariness of this day when there is no service to attend.
A way of being
when the palm branch you brough home fades from vivid green toward brown.
A way of being
where you are not sure what you are “supposed” to do, feel, or experience.
Just be today with
all that is un-solvable in your life.
Just be today with
the messy mystery that needs more than Sherlock Holmes or Scooby Doo to
investigate.
Just be today with
the vulnerability and the truth that there is no cure for being human
(thanks to Dr. Kate Bowler for this brilliant phrase).
Just be today when
there are no bummer stickers of phrases of religiosity and church-ianity to be
bantered about.
Just be today with
God who is there not only during triumphant entries and sorrow-filled Fridays
and glorious Easter morns…God is there in the mundane messiness of this
Tuesday.
How?
That questions points to the un-solvability of it all ~ to the deep truth that life is not a problem to be solved, but to be lived ~ and life will never be Mary Poppins neat and orderly ~ where there is a place for everything and everything is in its place. But it is true that a spoonful of sugar helps just about everything. So let the How God is moving in the messiness of Tuesday sit with you? Let that question
set you on an exploration of curious openness to the many ways God shows up
disguised as your life today. I would
love to hear how God enters your life this day in the comments. Amen.
