Please pray with
me:
God on this
election day, we pray for our country.
We acknowledge the ways fear has so woven itself into our national rhetoric. We have accepted that we are deeply divided
just as the way things are, nothing we can do about it. We consume story after story that causes our
blood pressure to go up about all the ways the world is broken and beyond
repair. We are not sure how to make a
difference. We feel, like our Israelite
brothers and sisters, stuck between a rock and a hard place. And the narrative goes that to relieve and
release all this pain we blame “the other.”
Help us, O God, we need You.
Break through hardened hearts starting with mine. I pray You would part
the seas that divide us, and help us be the “we” You call us to be. Grant us strength and courage; grant us
wisdom; grant us a liberating love that will feed and fuel our lives in these
Exodus days where we wander in the wilderness.
Help Your church, O God, for sometimes we can feel like Moses ~ not sure
we know where we are going or if we ready.
Yet, O God, You never promised to swoop in like a superhero; or to give
us the play book or the five-year plan – much less a five-day plan. Your promise has and continues to be a
Presence that infuses and empowers us to be Your people ~ even as we wander ~
sometimes stumbling ~ through the wilderness of these days. I pray for my brothers and sisters here in
this country. I pray for our
leaders. Guide us, O God. Ground us, especially when we feel tossed to
and fro amid the storms of life. Embrace
and empower us to be Your witnesses embodying Your justice, peace, love, and
hope in these days. Amen.
